Hand-build mugs, cups and tumblers with this plaster mold, which is 6 inches in height, 3.25 inches diameter at top, and tapers to 2.25 inches at the bottom. This plaster cup mold is not a hump mold, where one slab of clay is draped over it. Instead, traditional hand/slab building techniques are used to attain the cup's shape, particularly slip and scoring clay slabs. The sample piece above was hand-built using one slab wrapped completely around the mold for the sidewalls; once fairly firm, but still pliable, it is removed from the mold, after which the two edges are joined. A circular slab was then cut out and added for the cup\'s bottom. The volume capacity of a cup made with this mold is about 22 ounces in the greenware state; The volume after glaze firing will decrease based on the clay\'s shrink rate. For example, for clay shrinking 15% and 20%, volume will be approximately 18.5 ounces and 17.5 ounces respectively.
