Hand-build pottery cups and mugs with this mold, including coffee mugs, tea and hot chocolate cups. This plaster cup mold is not a hump mold, where one slab is draped on it. Instead, it is a hand-building tool to produce the shape using traditional hand-building techniques (e.g. slip and score slabs). The sample shown here is comprised of two slabs: The first slab was wrapped around the entire side of the mold and stayed on the mold until it retained the shape. It was then removed from the mold, and the left/right sides were scored, slip was applied, and the seam was closed; A second circular slab was cut for the bottom, scored and adhered with slip. Note that this mold is tapered, with the top's diameter 3 inches, and the bottom just under 2 inches. In the greenware state, volume of pottery piece is about 14 ounces; after glaze kiln firing, volume will be less due to clay shrinkage. For example, for clay shrinking 12% and 15%, the finished piece would be approximately 12.3 ounces and 11.9 ounces respectively.
